About Us :: Chief Commissioner's Office JURISDICTION: The Mumbai Customs
Zone-II is the biggest Customs Zone in the country in terms of revenue
collection and contributes about 20% of the National Customs Revenue. It is also the biggest in terms of import and
export cargo handled by containers (J N Port). 2. Mumbai Customs Zone-II was carved out
of the erstwhile Mumbai Customs Zone in October 2002. Originally it comprised of Jawaharlal Nehru
Custom House (JNCH), Nhava Sheva
and Sahar Air Cargo Complex (ACC), Mumbai. The zone
was reorganized in July 2007 and Sahar ACC was
attached to Mumbai III Zone. Presently
Mumbai Customs Zone II comprises Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House only
(Commissioner (Import), Commissioner (Export) and Commissioner (Appeals)). FUNCTIONS:
3. The Chief Commissioner is the head of
Mumbai Customs Zone II which has jurisdiction over the Customs work of 3(ii) The Chief Commissioner reports directly
to the Central Board of Excise and Customs, Ministry of Finance, 4. The Chief Commissioner’s office
consists of one Additional Commissioner, one Assistant Commissioner and
supporting staff. They assist in monitoring revenue collection, formulation of
the trade facilitation measures, preventive and anti-smuggling checks, recovery
of arrears, disposal of pendencies, redressal of the grievances and
complaints of the trade/public. Coordination among the Commissionerates within the Zone and effective interaction
with the trade to facilitate the import and export operations are also matters handled by the Chief Commissioner’s Office.
It also keeps the Central Board of Excise and Customs posted of the progress in
revenue collection and other Customs related work achieved by the Zone through
periodic statements and reports. It also analyses the trend of imports
and exports for making revenue estimates and plans trade facilitation measures
to reduce dwell time. The Assistant
Commissioner in Chief Commissioner’s Office is designated as CPIO to handle
requests under the RTI Act.
